IUCN works on many conservation and development issues including ecosystem management, marine and coastal areas, species, forests, protected areas, invasive species, and water management.

Region

IUCN's HQ are located in Gland, Switzerland. IUCN’s work is supported by a global secretariat of 60 offices and hundreds of partners in public, NGO and private sectors around the world.

Reasons to participate

As part of its 2009-2012 Programme, IUCN is working to include biodiversity concerns in climate change adaptation and mitigation policies and practice. In collaboration with WWF-US, IUCN is building the Ecosystems and Livelihoods Adaptation Network (ELAN). ELAN intends to be a research-driven and action-oriented network of institutions, committed to delivering innovative and practical ecosystems-based solutions to climate change, based on the latest information and the diffusion of knowledge among network members. Collaboration with Natureandpoverty.net will increase ELAN's opportunities to generate and share knowledge on ecosystem-based adaptation.
